About Department
The department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology was established in 2015 in Govt. medical college Saharanpur to run undergraduate teaching programme and to cater medico-legal work of the associated hospital.
The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology is situated on the 3rd Floor of Academic Block of the Medical College having all required infrastructure as NMC like :
- Faculty Rooms
- Resident Doctor’s Rooms
- Non-Teaching Staff Rooms
- Demonstration rooms: The department has two demonstration rooms with the sitting capacity of 75-100 students each. The demonstration rooms are well ventilated, spacious and have comfortable sitting arrangements for students. These demonstration rooms are equipped with audio-visual aids like , projector and writing board.
- Museum: The department has one well established museum, which contains various models, charts, wet & dry specimens, weapons, bullets & firearm models, articulated & disarticulated bone sets and various poison specimens for practical teaching of medical students.
- Research Lab: The department has well equipped research laboratory for academic purpose.
- Department Library: The department has a full flagged library with comfortable sitting arrangements. The library contains books and journals related to Forensic Medicine & Toxicology and other allied subjects including recent editions.

Our vision is to provide excellence in medical education pertaining to the subject of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology and equip the medical graduates to handle medico-legal issues during clinical practice. To create a healthy teaching and research environment in different aspects of Forensic Medicine
To address the issues in Forensic field effectively by offering an education and skills to improve the quality of criminal investigation system , so as to increase the conviction rate.

Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology SMMH Medical College Saharanpur (U.P) Course Outcome (CO)- At the end of the course in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, the M.B.B.S. student will be able to:
- CO1. Knowledge of court & Law enforcing agenesis, Knowledge of Natural & Unnatural Deaths, Dying declaration, Certification of Deaths & Organ Transplantation Act.
- CO2. Knowledge, observation, analysis, interpretation of Post-mortem Findings in Various Types of Deaths and Writing of Post-mortem Reports
- CO3. Judicious & effective communication with Living Cases of medico-legal examination and Good report writing of cases of injuries and age estimation, sexual offences and alcohol intoxication etc.
- CO4. Knowledge, Diagnosis and management of common Poisoning cases and writing medico-legal report and Reporting.
- CO5. Knowledge of various laws and regulation related to hospital service. Knowledge of medico-legal records related to casualty and emergency medico-legal cases.
- CO6. Acquire integrated knowledge of Para-clinical and Clinical specialties related to Medico-legal issues.
- CO7. Knowledge of laws in relation to medical Practice and develop attitude communication and professional skill to handle ethical and medical negligence issues.
- CO8. Understand the medico-legal responsibilities of a physician while rendering community service in rural or urban health centre
- CO9. Preserve and dispatch relevant viscera, articles and trace evidence to Forensic science laboratory and interpret the FSL report. • CO10. Detect occupational and environmental poisoning, their legal aspects, particularly pertaining to Workman’s Compensation Act. • CO11. Understand the proper drafting of consent forms
